As the spring season approaches, the Cumberland Valley High School baseball team is preparing for a year focused on improvement, resilience, and ending a recent postseason drought. With a renewed emphasis on depth, defense, and disciplined play, the Eagles are setting their sights on returning to the playoffs and securing their first District win in four years.

According to junior pitcher and infielder Caden Johnson, expectations remain high despite key changes to the roster.

“The expectation for the season this year is to make the playoffs and win a District game to break the four-year losing streak,” Johnson said. Compared to last season, the team brings increased depth across positions, though it will rely less on size and more on execution.

“We are going to have to rely more on small ball this year… playing sound defense and making good decisions on the bases,” Johnson said.

The Eagles are especially motivated for several key matchups, including games against defending State champion Cedar Cliff and the Ephrata Mountaineers. While challenges remain, particularly adjusting to a new style of play, the team believes success will ultimately be measured by its ability to compete for a championship, whether at the Mid-Penn, District, or State level.
